Process neurotraining
Neurotraining at Dynamisch Bureau begins with a brain measurement conducted at your home. You then train using home equipment for three months. By the end of this period, there’s a high likelihood that your complaints will have significantly decreased!
What does a neurotraining program look like?
One of our neurotrainers will visit you at home to perform an initial measurement using a brainband placed on your head. This measures your brain activation and checks if it aligns with the complaints you are experiencing. Please note: we do not provide diagnoses. You will borrow this brainband and receive clear instructions on how to use it. At the start of the program, you will also complete a questionnaire as a baseline to document your complaints. After the program, we evaluate whether these complaints have improved.
After the initial measurement, your training begins at home. Using your own tablet or smartphone and the brainband, you’ll watch YouTube videos of your choice. In essence, you’re watching your own brain activity. When your brain exhibits the desired state, the video becomes larger, rewarding you. This is called operant conditioning.
It’s similar to learning to ride a bike: when you manage to stay balanced, you feel happy. Your brain recognizes this and “locks in” that brain state. Once learned, it’s not forgotten. In neurotraining, the reward is the clear and visible video playback. This pleasant experience encourages your brain to recreate the desired state more often, even when you’re not actively training.
Duration of the training
For effective and lasting results, you will complete at least 40 sessions of 30 minutes, training 3 to 4 times a week. Since you’ll be selecting YouTube videos you enjoy, the training remains engaging and enjoyable. The entire program typically lasts about 3 months.
Guidance throughout the program
After each session, you’ll record your feedback in the app about how it went. A Dynamisch Bureau team member monitors this feedback and your training results. You’ll receive guidance through the app or, if necessary, by phone. Having someone monitor your progress adds motivation to stick with the program. After the training period, a comprehensive evaluation will assess whether your complaints have improved, both quantitatively and qualitatively.
Understanding brain states
The foundation of neurotraining is the brain measurement. This measures overall brain activity and highlights common states such as underactivation, inhibition, activation, and overactivation.
Brain states naturally fluctuate throughout the day:
Underactivation – typical when you’re tired and preparing for sleep.
Overactivation – necessary in situations requiring quick reactions, like assessing danger.
A healthy brain adjusts its states continuously. However, certain complaints arise when these fluctuations are insufficient or the brain is stuck in a chronic state. For example:
Prolonged stress often leads to chronic overactivation, even during rest, disrupting sleep.
Underactivation, which is helpful for sleep, hinders focus when performing tasks.
Neurotraining helps the brain regain its ability to switch effectively between states.
